A use for the pollution rules in ItB
Into the Blue has rules on pollution and, with help from a thread on water I started on enworld, I have come up with another use for them-

When travelling, people are not adapted to the local water supply. They get ill from drinking the unpurified water. So the DM can decide how toxic the water is and use the rules. Distance from home, local environment and local customs should play a part.

PrCs that are explorer related could (or should) have a class feature that allows the person to ignore this.

I was also thinking of using it for air pollution, but I don't think that would work without a major rehaul.

I was also looking at the feeding spell for soil consumers, but I don't think that would work without a lot of work for the DM and anyways it wouldn't be worth it. Even I am not that serious when creating a setting.
